WHAT TO

DO

With Hastings, Battle and Pevensey castle to the East, the lively cosmopolitan town of Brighton and historic County Town of Lewes to the West, a wealth of beautiful villages and scenery inland and the iconic Beachy Head and Seven Sisters Country Park on the doorstep, you have all the ingredients for a truly memorable break.

After a day exploring the Downs from Beachy Head to the Seven Sisters Country Park, return to the award-winning Pilot Inn for a choice of local ales, selection of fine wines or premium lagers and ciders. Then pull up a chair in one of our dining rooms and savour a sumptuous dish from our ever-changing seasonal menu, before settling in for the night in one of our elegant en-suite double rooms.

The downland which has been farmed for centuries is dotted by thousands of sheep, with a sheep centre to further enlighten you.  The chalk downs drain quickly and are usefully mud free, you won’t need hiking boots to wander along most of the paths.

Eastbourne is dotted with theatres, with a variety of productions for those who enjoy a spot or culture.

The Towner Gallery is on one side of the Congress Theatre. For those who can drag themselves away from the Pilot Inn food, there is all manner of restaurants in the town centre and beyond.  Eastbourne is home to many independent businesses, a concentration of which can be found in the South Street area, which is found a short distance from the railway station.

The bandstand is known for being the busiest in England and attracts full houses for everything from brass bands, and orchestras to tribute and original rock and pop acts. The shingle beach is easy to swim off at high tide with sand and rock pools when the tide goes out too.  Further afield in Sussex the scenery is also stunning with views from High and Over near Alfriston.

The Pilot Inn is a great base to explore from.  We carry a range of pamphlets to help you find things to do.  And you can just ask us or a friendly local.
